SBLive and Cubase VST

When I first installed my SBLive I was pretty disappointed, because the midi to audio sync (if you use cubase, you know what I'm talking about) was pretty bad. Usually, recorded audio tracks where delayed a random amount of time, which I had to adjust manually. Sometimes even the playback of the audio tracks got a random delay as well.

I couldn't have it like this, and I didn't feel like giving up on the Live so soon either. So I spent an evening experimenting with different audio system settings in Cubase, and finally I found the key to the problem. Set Cubase to work with a 48 kHz samplerate instead of the default of 44kHz. This really makes sense, since the Live only operates at 48 kHz. If you're using any other frequency, the soundcard resamples everything to 48 "on the fly", and that obviously cause delays...

Now I can record a whole song, with midi and audio tracks, onto a single stereo track, and on playback, there's only a constant small delay which can be fixed using the offset parameter... I love that!
